Koyasan – home to Shingon Buddhism in Japan is set in the mountains and feels like the physical embodiment of serenity and peace.

Temple stays provide the opportunity to experience the quiet, serene aura of Koyasan.

The view from our room overlooked the Japanese gardens of the temple. With a brisk wind entering through the sliding windows we sat and watched as the monks attend to their daily chores in serene silence and grace, against the backdrop of the fading cherry blossom trees.

Okunoin Cemetery is the resting place of the founder of Shingon Buddhism and the largest graveyard in Japan. The serene silence of death hangs in the air and feels like a beautiful dichotomy.
