Halal Friendly Restaurants – Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

Whilst there does not seem to be any restaurants serving Halal meat in the Victoria Falls area in Zimbabwe there are a number of halal friendly establishments we tried serving great vegetarian and seafood options. The below are our tried and tested favorites:

Nam Took Asian Restaurant

This restaurant serves up authentic and delicious Thai food with extensive prawn and fish options. The locally sourced prawns in Zimbabwe are not to be missed! This was so good we came back two evenings in a row.

Rainforest Cafe

The Rainforest Cafe is the only dining option in the Victoria Falls park but it’s very good with an extensive well executed menu from halloumi wraps (delicious) to pasta dishes and breakfast options too. The cafe is owned by the Shearwater Tours group- one of the two major two operators in Victoria Falls.

Shearwater Cafe

The Shearwater cafe is a favorite amongst visitors and would not look out of place in Los Angeles with it’s cool, smart revamped warehouse vibe. Also part of the Shearwater Tours group it is located in town and is not a cheap option but the food, like at Rainforest Cafe is executed really well. We ordered the creamy Mozambiquan prawn pasta and it was delicious- those prawns were divine!

The Lookout Cafe

The Lookout Cafe boasts amazing views over the Zambezi River and the bridge separating Zimbabwe and Zambia. It is walking distance from the Falls, the centre of town and the Victoria Falls Hotel. The cafe is owned by rival tour operators Wild Horizons so you can also book tours here too. Lots of vegetarian and local fish options on the menu- we returned three times and ordered the local Zambezi River fish which was delicious!

Victoria Falls Hotel

The historic Victoria Falls Hotel needs to be on every visitor’s list when in Victoria Falls. There are a number of dining options and restaurants within the hotel but we opted for the traditional afternoon tea which you can read more about here. For halal friendly just tell them you don’t eat meat and they will swap out the chicken sandwiches with a vegetarian option. The dining menu has a few vegetarian and seafood options if you want to visit for dinner.

Pizza Inn

Victoria Falls is quite a pricey place for visitors so if you’re looking for something cheap and cheerful there is a small food complex in the centre of town on the same street that Shearwater Cafe is located on. The complex includes a Pizza Inn which has vegetarian pizza on offer and the neighboring counter Chicken Inn has some great fresh cut chips.

If you do manage to find any Halal restaurants be sure to let us know so we can update our post!
